Stampin’ Up! – 2020-2022 In Colour DSP – Scrappy strip technique

TUTORIAL

Hi everyone. Thanks for visiting my blog. Hiya to those who have been here before and welcome to those popping in for the first time.

Todays share has me doing something I don’t normally do….. following a trend! For anyone that knows me this will be a bit of shock and horror. I am most certainly not known for being a follower of fashion or any trend in general for that matter BUT I have seen this “Scrappy Strip Technique” doing the rounds on Pinterest and other social media and I love the idea behind it of using up the little pieces or cut offs from projects. Now this technique started out as the brainchild of the husband (Bruno) of an Australian demonstrator that I follow (Kylie Bertucci) and it is EVERYWHERE. I will pop a link to their original blog post with video at the bottom of my post if you would like to see the origins.

Now, I am already someone who does not get rid of cut offs when I have finished a project. I do have a scrap box and how I store and organise them has changed many times over the years. I always thought the biggest lie I told myself was that I was keeping them as someday I would find a use for them. THAT DAY HAS COME! THIS IS THE PERFECT PROJECT TO DO JUST THAT! WHOOP!

1st attempt using the 2020-2022 In Colours Designer Series Paper on black – size A6

  1. Basic black card base – 11 3/4 x 4 1/8 scored @ 5 7/8
  2. Basic black piece to add paper strips to 5 3/8 x 3 5/8 (allows for it to be trimmed to 5 1/8 x 3 3/8 to tidy edges once glue has dried)
  3. Attach random paper strips to black panel and trim once dried
  4. strip of black card for greeting to sit on 3/8 x 5 1/8
  5. Stamped and heat embossed greeting with white embossing powder on scrap of black and punched with label punch
  6. attach panel to card front

TOP TIP – with 1st paper strip lay an edge parallel to edge of panel you are attaching it to to give straight edge to work from when trimming – thanks Bruno for the tip

I still have not purchased any goodies from the new August – December Mini Catalogue which has lots of Christmas loveliness in it. BUT I was over the moon to see my two favourite Designer Series Papers from last year return (It is rare for Stampin’ Up! to repeat a DSP!) One of them is the Feels like Frost 6×6 DSP in its beautiful modern blues, lilacs and silver foil on the reverse it was a hit with me last year and I had lots of scraps from projects last Christmas. So I figured I’d get the scraps out and try this technique with it. As this comes in a 6×6 size lots of my scraps were not much longer than 3″ so I made these versions with Stampin’ Up! Notecards as the base meaning that the panel for the strips would be smaller and fit my scraps. I made one with a Rococo Rose (this colour is in one of the papers I used) base and panel and one with Seaside Spray as the base and panel.

Feels like Frost DSP on Rococo Rose and Seaside Spray – Notecard size

  1. Whisper white notecard – once folded – 3 1/2 x 5
  2. Rococo Rose/ Seaside Spray piece to add paper strips to 2 3/4 x 4 1/4 (allows for it to be trimmed to 2 1/2 x 4 to tidy edges once glue has dried)
  3. Rococo Rose strip with silver heat embossed greeting 1/2 x 4. Seaside Spray strip 1/4 x 4
  4. Seaside Spray scrap used to punch bauble with silver heat embossed greeting
  5. With the notes being Whisper White I wanted a panel behind the strips to blend in better like when I used the black base card with a black panel. The piece of Rococo Rose and Seaside Spray that fills the white front of the card is cut at 3 3/8 x 4 7/8

So there we have it – trying a current trend, a sneak peak at some lovely Christmas paper from the new August – December mini catalogue that went live to customers last week and a new technique to use up all those pretty scraps that us crafters just can’t part with. Click here to view Bruno Bertucci’s video where he actually uses scraps of plain card and not paper (but I couldn’t just copy his exactly to the letter now could I?)
